William Zielinski

William "Bill" Zielinski, 69, of Honesdale, went to Heaven on Friday morning, September 13, 2024 at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital in Wilkes-Barre after an illness. His beloved wife of 44 years, the former Susan M. Megivern survives him. They were married at St. Tikhon's Church in South Canaan on August 30, 1980.

Born January 1, 1955 in Honesdale, he was the first baby born in Wayne County that year. Bill was the son and only child of the late Elmer and Julia (Telowsky) Zielinski.

Bill was a graduate of Honesdale High School. He was a lifelong member of St. Tikhon's Orthodox Church in South Canaan. Bill worked at S.J. Bailey and Sons for 30 years where he was a furniture assembler for the majority of his career. In 2004, he began working for Rendena Services and continued to work for The Knife Shop for 20 years until his health prevented him this summer. An avid hunter and fisherman, Bill was a member and Treasurer of the Cherry Ridge Fishing Club; the club members there were more like a second family to Bill. Likewise, Bill loved to go hunting on the family farm with Charlie and the boys.

Bill truly loved talking with other people. He inherited the gift of gab from his mom, Julia. For many years, he faithfully volunteered at the Annual Pilgrimage on Memorial Day Weekend at St. Tikhon's, and the Rock Lake Picnic at St. Juliana's church. Bill and Sue enjoyed playing bingo with many friends and loved ones at the fire halls in Beach Lake and White Mills.

He was a sports enthusiast, and was a fan of the New York Yankees and the Jets. Bill also enjoyed keeping up with local and national politics and could always enjoy a good conversation with anyone about current events.

Through the years, Bill and Sue have welcomed several dogs into their home and lives. When each dog passed away, Bill would say, "now they're one of my angels." Lieutenant Dan, Bill's constant four-legged companion will now stay by Sue's side; they both have comfort in knowing that Bill is now their angel watching over them.

Bill is also survived by three aunts, Barbara Barna of South Canaan, Lillian Kuhner of Nebraska and Florence Zielinski of Honesdale; an uncle, Frank Zielinski and his wife Eleanor of Archbald; a sister-in law, Eileen Davis and her husband Bob; brother-in-law, Charles Megivern and his wife Joyce; and brother-in-law, Lynn Megivern and his wife Trish, all of Pleasant Mount; nieces and nephews: Melissa Weist, Charles Megivern and his wife Amanda, Luke Megivern and his wife Lanie, Destiny Megivern, and Nicholas Megivern; great-nieces and great-nephews: Alyssa Corcoran and her husband Tim, Brianna Weist and her companion Zack, Cadence Megivern, Landon Megivern, and Brylee Megivern; and two great-great nieces: Addie and Charlotte Corcoran.

He was also preceded in death by several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
