William Schwab Sr.

William D. Schwab, Sr., 91, of Honesdale passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, July 18, 2026 at Wayne Woodlands Manor in Waymart. His loving wife of nearly 70 years, Marjorie G. (White) Schwab, preceded him in death on September 8, 2023.

Born in Scranton on May 16, 1935, Bill was the son of the late Duane B. and Edith (Rude) Schwab.

Bill grew up in Honesdale and attended the local schools in Wayne County. He later enlisted in the United States Army and served during the Korean War. Following his time of military service, Bill returned to Honesdale and worked as an automotive mechanic. A talented craftsman, Bill built the home that he and Marge raised their family in. He was especially proud of the stone fireplace in that home that he built with rocks he collected from the many different states he visited.

His outgoing and friendly personality led him to establish a well-known business, Schwab & Kovaleski Concrete Contractors with his friend and business partner. They operated for more than 30 years before Bill's retirement. His skill and expertise as a concrete and stone mason was recognized by many people in the community, and Bill was honored to be asked to serve as Clerk of the Works to oversee the construction and addition project of the Wallenpaupack School.

If a man's fortune was measured by friends, Bill was a wealthy man. The door to Marge and Bill's home was always open to visitors whether it was friends, family, neighbors, or strangers, Bill and Marge welcomed them all. The coffee pot was always on, and folks were always greeted with a friendly smile, a seat at the table, and time for a visit.

Bill and Marge enjoyed traveling together. Through the years they visited many friends and family members in Florida, Georgia, and Cape Hatteras. A special highlight for Bill was when his grandson, Mikey Jones took him to Florida Bike Week on his Harley.

Bill's life was full of laughter and fun. He could be counted on for a good joke and a cheerful attitude. Bill loved and cherished his family, his friends, and each person who made their way into his life. He will never be forgotten.

Bill is survived by seven children: William Schwab Jr. (Kendall), Shelley Schwab, Michael Schwab, Patrick Schwab, Lisa Weinger, Rebecca Turner (Joe), and Molly Rhoads (Shannon); grandchildren: Michael Jr., Cora, Katrina, Talitha, James, Karl, Jesse, Luke, Marissa, Erin, and Rachel; great-grandchildren: Genevieve, Chloe, Penylope, Aoua, Layna, Ameah, Alexis, Jesse, Kaya, Rhiannon, and Bennett; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Schwab; a brother, James Schwab; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Penny Jones; a great-granddaughter Gabriella Martin; a son-in-law, Karl Weinger; daughter-in-law, Laurie McElroy Schwab; and two sisters: Fay Mikulak, and Monica Goble.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Wayne Woodlands Manor for the gift of compassionate care, love, and kindness that was given to Bill and his family during the final chapter of his life. Bill's family will be forever grateful to each and every staff member who invested in his life and blessed him in so many ways.

Friends and family may visit on Friday, August 7, 2026 from 1-3 P.M. at the Howell Family Funeral Home, Inc., Edward R. Howell, Funeral Director, 269 Belmont Street, Waymart, PA 18472.

Interment will be private in Hillcrest Cemetery, Galilee.
