William Schott, 85, of Waymart, passed away peacefully on Wednesday afternoon, November 5, 2025, at home. His wife of 59 years, the former Mary F. Cobb survives him. They were married on September 17, 1966.
Born May 9, 1940 in Scranton, he was one of 18 children born to John and Olga Dorash Schott and grew up in the family home in South Canaan.
As a young man at 21 years of age, Bill enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and proudly served his country. He maintained a lifelong respect and sense of pride in being a Marine. Bill was a member of St. Mary's Church in Waymart. For many years, he worked as a diesel mechanic. Always a diligent and hard worker, Bill could fix just about anything. He was an avid fisherman and also enjoyed hunting. Spending time with his family was what Bill loved the most. He enjoyed playing games and making memories with his wife, children, grandchildren, siblings, and friends. A man of few words, but with a great sense of humor, he was liked by all.
He is also survived by five children: Teresa Schott of Honesdale, Amy Valenzuela (Andy) of Evergreen, CO, Lee James Schott (Debbie Deates) of Amarillo, TX, Carleen Hon (Michael) of Altoona, IA, and Daniel Schott (Denise) of Waymart; 9 grandchildren: Gabrielle, Julianna, Michael, Collette (Ben), Elise, Gianna, Jacob, Carly, and Emma; 1 great-grandson: Demetrius; one sister, Mary Nancy Piercy; one brother, Patrick Schott, both of Seelyville; and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at 10:30 AM in St. Mary's Church, 242 Carbondale Road, Waymart, PA with Rev. Joseph Sitko and Deacon Edward Kelly officiating. Rosary will begin at 10:00 AM. Everyone attending is asked to go directly to the church on Wednesday. Services will conclude with military honors in the church.
Inurnment will be private, in Queen of Peace Cemetery in Hawley, at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bill's memory to Wayne Memorial Hospice, 601 Park Street, Honesdale, PA 18431.
