WINSTON-SALEM Oct. 2, 1916 - April 1, 2018

Rev. Dr. Clark Wilbur Hunt, 101, passed away on Easter Sunday, April 1, 2018. Those who knew him will continue to celebrate his life and cherish the memories of his calm, steady, faithful presence in his love for The Lord, his family and his friends.

He was born October 2, 1916, in New Milford, Pa., the son of Rev. Dr. Sidney E. and Retta Chaffee Hunt.

Upon graduation from Sidney (N.Y.) High School, he attended business school at Wyoming Seminary and then worked for two years at Miners National Bank of Wilkes-Barre, Pa. He graduated from Syracuse University, where he was president of Alpha Chi Rho fraternity and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He graduated from Yale Divinity School in 1943 and received an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from MacMurray College in 1963.

He married Elaine B. Miller in 1942. Dr. and Mrs. Hunt served pastorates in Crestwood, New York; Albany, New York and Westfield, New Jersey. For five years he was a District Superintendent in the Northern New Jersey Conference of the United Methodist Church. In 1957, he was one of ten Protestant ministers chosen to participate in preaching missions to overseas U.S. Air Force bases. His assignments were four bases in Great Britain. He was a delegate to the General Conference of the United Methodist Church and to the World Methodist Council. Two books of his sermons were published. Upon retirement, Dr. and Mrs. Hunt moved to River Hills in Lake Wylie, S.C., where he served part-time on the staff of the River Hills Community Church. They moved to Arbor Acres in 1988. At Arbor Acres, he served a term as president of the Resident Council and later as a resident member of the Board of Directors.

Dr. Hunt is survived by daughter, Judith Hunt MacMillan of Redmond, Wa.; son, Dr. Clark Curtis Hunt and wife, Ann of Midlothian, Va.; seven grandchildren and their families: Kerry Gnik (Mark) and children Gavin and Sydney; Beth Bower (John) and son Justin; Michael MacMillan (Nikki) and their children Callisa and Grayson; Peter Manier (Stephanie) and their daughter, Paige; Molly MacMillan (Jason); Jill Hunt (Troy) and children Mason, Bryce and Preston; Tim Hunt (Ashley Gentry). Dr. Hunt was pre-deceased by his wife, Elaine (April 2011, after 68 years of marriage); by his brother, Walter L. Hunt, and by his son-in-law, Greg MacMillan.

There will be a memorial service to celebrate his life on April 28 at 11a.m. It will be held in Piner Hall at Arbor Acres, 1244 Arbor Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27104.

Private Interment will be in The Waymart Cemetery at Canaan Corners, Owego Turnpike, Waymart, PA.
