It is with heavy hearts our family announces the passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Patrick J. Taraschuk, 74, formerly of Damascus, PA on May 24, 2025.
Born on February 22, 1951 in Honesdale, he was the son of the late Ambrose "Andy" Taraschuk and Jennie (Krogler) Taraschuk who resided in Calkins, PA.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Ann (Welsh); two sons, Jordan Taraschuk (Christie) of Auburn, PA, and Justin Taraschuk (Lorissa) of Honesdale, PA; a daughter, Jamilyn Perry (Kevin), of Hershey, PA; and several grandchildren including: Jace, Autumnlyn, Bradyn, Joseph, Lily, and Grace. He is also survived by his sister, Nancy Garing (Walter) of Honesdale, PA; and a nephew, Shawn Garing (Becky) and their children, Tyler and Logan of Honesdale PA; as well as many cousins and friends.
Pat coached in the Honesdale Little League for several years as well as the Damascus Teeners. Baseball was his favorite sport. As the grandchildren grew, he never missed an opportunity to go to their games or meets. Even in his sixties he was joining them in the backyard for a soccer game or a baseball game. They will miss him greatly.
For many years, he operated a sawmill in the area and was one of the local loggers. He had a passion for anything wood. He enjoyed helping others turn that lumber into beautiful pieces of artwork, furniture, or crafts. He worked to educate others about the lumber industry, the forest, and how to maintain it properly for everyone's enjoyment.
The last 5 plus years of his life were spent at Allied Skilled Nursing Center in Scranton, PA. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses, aides, and staff of 2 North for the wonderful care, comfort, and compassion provided to him as well as our family. A special thank you goes out to Kathy Osborne, Patty, at the front desk, and well as nurses Mari, Robin, Summer, Eva, Joe, and all of Pat's day to day nurses.
Pat was known in the community for going out of his way to help others. We ask that you do a kind deed for someone else as Pat would have done. If you so desire, memorial contributions can be made in Pat's memory to the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation (for spinal cord injuries and research), 636 Morris Turnpike, Suite 3A, Short Hills, NJ 07078.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no public services.
Arrangements and cremation are entrusted to the Howell Family Funeral Home, Inc., Edward R. Howell, Funeral Director, 269 Belmont Street, Waymart, PA 18472. www.HowellFamilyFuneralHome.com
