Lorraine J. Bannon, 92, of Waymart, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, March 1, 2026 at Wayne Memorial Hospital, after an illness. Her husband of nearly 72 years, James W. Bannon preceded her in death on July 6, 2025.
Born January 13, 1934 in Eynon, she was the daughter of the late Angelo and Priscilla (Bianchi) Pozza.
Married on October 18, 1952 in St. Mary's Church in Waymart, Jimmy and Lorraine created a beautiful life together. She was so proud to live in the home that Jimmy built. A talented seamstress, she worked at Dale Sportswear and Katz Factory in Honesdale before retiring in her mid-fifties. Lorraine was a member of St. Mary's Church and the Woodcarvers Association.
Lorraine valued and made a life around her family, her heritage, and her food. She was always full of stories, many of which were designed to elicit laughter; she always aimed to make friends wherever she went.
She was the chef of the family, and proud of her Italian heritage. Lorraine enjoyed cooking for everyone during all family holiday get togethers, and sometimes just because! Her cooking is the gold standard in the minds of her loved ones, especially when she made her homemade 'macaroni'.
Lorraine had a memorable, boisterous personality and always loved showing off her china paintings, crocheted projects, and wood carvings. She was always bringing the party or the helping hand to all things.
Lorraine is survived by a daughter-in-law, Joyce Bannon; three grandchildren: Renee Chernin and her husband Richard, James Bannon and his wife Kayla, and Gary Barr and his fiance Nicole Kopinski; five great-grandchildren: Tyler, Max, Luke, Hunter, and Paisley; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, James A. Bannon in 2011; a sister, Susan Pozza; and three brothers, Armando Pozza, Joseph Pozza, and Angelo Pozza.
Graveside Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 with Deacon Edward Kelly officiating at The Waymart Cemetery at Canaan Corners, Owego Turnpike. Everyone attending is asked to go directly to the cemetery on Tuesday.
In accordance with Lorraine's wishes, there will be no viewing.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Lorraine's memory to St. Mary's Church, PO Box 160, Waymart, PA 18472.
Arrangements are entrusted to Howell Family Funeral Home, Inc., Edward R. Howell, Funeral Director, 269 Belmont Street, Waymart, PA 18472. www.HowellFamilyFuneralHome.com
