Lois Keill Keen, 89 of Waymart, passed away peacefully on Tuesday night, May 20, 2025 at Wayne Woodlands Manor. Her husband, Wade H. Keen preceded her in death on August 1, 2019. They were married on February 23, 1957.
Born March 30, 1936 in Cherry Ridge, she was the daughter of the late Edwin W. and Dorothy A. (Kozik) Keill.
Lois was educated at South Clinton Elementary School, South Canaan Consolidated School, Cleveland Jr. High School in Newark, NJ, and graduated from Waymart High School in 1954.
In 1979, after working in the Wayne County Bureau of Elections and the District Attorney's Office, Lois was the first female ever elected to a Wayne County Row Office. In January of 1980, she became the Wayne County Register of Wills and Recorder of Deeds. Lois held that office for eight years until 1988. She later worked at the Wayne Bank and Trust until her retirement in 1996.
Lois and Wade enjoyed traveling together in their retirement. In total, they visited 39 states including Alaska and Hawaii. Lois was an accomplished and avid bowler; she competed in both state and national bowling tournaments. A sports enthusiast, Lois was inducted into the Wayne County Sports Hall of Fame several years ago.
She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Waymart where was active in the choir, Sunday School, and United Methodist Women's Society.
Lois is survived by three daughters: Beth Lombardi of Waymart, Debbie Burgess and her husband Rick of Lyons, Kansas, and Amy Jones and her husband Donnie of Waymart; four granddaughters: Leah Zawisky and her husband John, Anessa Nation and her husband Dominic, Ashley Chandler and her husband Tim, and Shelley Gerstner and her husband Heath; ten great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Joan Keill; and a son-in-law, Skip Lombardi.
Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at 4:30 PM in Keen Cemetery, Elk Lake Drive, Waymart, PA with Pastor Wendy D'Agostino officiating.
Visitation will be on Saturday, May 24 from 2-4 PM at Howell Family Funeral Home, Inc., Edward R. Howell, Funeral Director, 269 Belmont Street, Waymart, PA 18472.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Lois' memory to Calvary United Methodist Church, P.O. Box J, Waymart, PA 18472, or Waymart Volunteer Fire Co., P.O. Box 186, Waymart, PA 18472.
