Kathryn S. Mohn of Beach Lake left this beautiful earth to join our heavenly father on Sunday, November 5, 2023. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Earl H. Mohn on November 18, 2018. They were married for more than 70 years.
Born May 10, 1928, in Galilee, she was the daughter of the late C. Frederick and Jannette (Walker) Stalker. Kate grew up on the family farm with 4 older brothers – Wilfred, Vernon, Forrest and Clarence. She greatly enjoyed her brothers, families especially their children, some of whom where closer to her age than her brothers. She graduated from Damascus High School and became a wife, mother and community volunteer. She enjoyed working in her large vegetable and flower garden as well as par-taking in traditional family farm chores. Baking cookies, pies and celebrating holidays were a joy to be shared.
Kate was a Sunday School teacher, Girl Scout leader, Damascus Twp. Ambulance volunteer, member of the Beach Lake United Methodist Church, and sang with the Wayne Choraliers. During her youth she played the piano and sang with different groups and made sure her children and grandchildren were provided musical opportunities. She loved plaid, her Scottish heritage and sewing. She enjoyed being the transportation person for local events. Volunteering for the benefit of others was a blessing!
She worked many years for Kelly’s Home for Adults in Narrowsburg, N.Y.
In addition to her daughter, Patricia, with whom she resided, Kate is survived by her son, Rodney and wife Susan Diehl Mohn of Beach Lake; daughter, Denise and husband, David Watson of Idaho and son James. Her daughter-in-law was the late Tina Lennert Mohn.
Grandchildren include Katerina Mohn Dermody and husband, Lt. Col Brian Dermody of Oklahoma and their children Grace and Hannah. Forrest Mohn and Amanda and their child Alyiah; Haliey Mohn Kominski and husband Dylan and their children, Jacklyn and Parker; and Jenna Mohn, a student at the University of Pittsburgh.
Kate was pre-deceased by a brother and sister in-law, Lloyd and Joyce Mohn Shaffer.
The family is grateful to Sue Hanson, Highland Physicians; Michele Cook, Visiting Nurse; and Wayne Memorial Hospice and team nurse, Charlene Whitmore for their professional care.
Special thanks to Judy and William Mohn, sister and brother-in-law for their loving support during the later days of life.
A private family graveside service was held at the Calkins Cemetery.
A Celebration of Life will be held on a future date.
