Kathryn Vera Lucas, 96, of Waymart, died peacefully on Saturday night, October 17, 2026, at home.
Born May 26, 1930 in South Canaan, she was the daughter of the late Adam and Mary (Tacorchick) Jubinsky.
Kathryn was a lifelong member of St. Tikhon's Orthodox Church. In her youth, she worked as a waitress at Camp With-A-Wind which was located at the present day Ladore Lodge. For many years, Kathryn was an insurance agent and owned and operated an insurance agency in Waymart. Later in life, she was the co-owner of The Park Hotel in Honesdale. Kathryn enjoyed cooking, traveling, and spending time at her home in Florida. Music and dancing were some of her greatest joys; she loved polka music and was an excellent polka dancer. Kathryn was an outgoing and intelligent woman who made friends wherever she went. She left a lasting impression of kindness, class, and natural charm. She will be fondly remembered by everyone who knew and loved her. May her memory be eternal!
She is survived by a son, Carl Lucas and his wife Elaine of Yulee, FL; a brother, John Jubinsky of Daytona Beach Shores, FL; a daughter-in-law, Diana Lucas, and grandson, Zachary Lucas of Odessa TX; honorary grandchildren, Livia and Zoe Havrilak and Xenia and Tristan Vivona; nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Kathryn was also preceded in death by a son, Matthew Lucas; her companion, August W. "Gus" Hahn, Jr.; and two sisters, Antoinette Kiehart, and Helen Ostroll.
Her family extends heartfelt gratitude to her caregivers: Tia, Jenn, Pat, Lorna, Becky, and Keyley for the excellent care they provided, and to her favorite hairdresser, Roni Noble.
