Julie L. Shaffer

Julie L. Shaffer, 78, of Honesdale was welcomed into the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday night, June 7, 2025 at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, William C. Shaffer. They were married on November 19, 1982.

Born February 12, 1947 in Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of the late Marcello Pagliano and Julia (Esporrin) Pagliano Kolenick, and the step-daughter of the late Michael Kolenick. Her father died at age 39 after he sustained an injury in the war while he was serving in the U.S. Navy.

In her youth, Julie lived in Waymart and attended Waymart High School. She and Bill were among the seven founding members of New Covenant Church in Hawley where she served as the church secretary and led the Women's Prayer Meetings. During this time, she traveled abroad as a missionary on three mission trips to Haiti. A skilled seamstress, Julie also loved to sew and was proud to make and distribute clothing to countless Haitian children. For many years, she served as the Assistant Pastor of New Horizons Fellowship in Honesdale. Her ministry enabled her to develop friendships with many people in the local community.

In 2001 she embarked on an enduring career as a cashier at Wegmans in Dickson City. It was there that Julie enjoyed customers and coworkers alike and could often be found talking and laughing with those around her. She loved being a part of the Wegmans family, and was proud to talk about it with anyone she met. Julie also enjoyed managing the accounting aspect of her husband's lawn care business in the Honesdale and surrounding areas.

Julie left a lasting impression everywhere she went; she will not be forgotten, but forever remembered by those whose lives she impacted.

In addition to her husband, Bill, she is also survived by three children: Jennifer Brower of New Jersey, Lisa Flynn of Scranton, and James C. Flynn Jr. of New Jersey; a brother, Marshall Pagliano; and several grandchildren including: Donald Caro III, Elizabeth Strouse, Dawn Strouse, and Vincent Strouse.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Rodney Pagliano.
