Joyce J. Fox

Joyce J. Fox, 81, of Canaan Township, Waymart, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday evening, July 18, 2026. Her loving husband of nearly 62 years, Thomas J. Fox, followed her to Heaven the next day, less than 24 hours later. They were married on September 26, 1964, at St. Mary's Church in Waymart.

Born on October 17, 1944, in Dyberry Township, Honesdale, Joyce was the daughter of the late Julian O. Eldred and Cynthia A. (Barhite) Eldred Harrell.

Joyce devoted many years to caring for her family as a loving stay-at-home mother before beginning a career outside the home. She worked at Waymart Knitwear, Home Depot in Dickson City, and later with Caregivers of America, where she cared for others.

Joyce enjoyed tending her gardens and beautiful flower beds. She enjoyed the excitement of bingo, trips to the casino, and trying her luck with lottery scratch-off tickets, bringing enthusiasm and fun to everything she did. She treasured time spent with family and friends and was happiest when those she loved were gathered around her.

Her faith remained an important part of her life. Joyce faithfully volunteered at St. Mary's Church and was an active member of the Altar and Rosary Society, generously giving her time in service to her parish community.

She is survived by two sons, Eric T. Fox and his wife, Julia, and Jason R. Fox and his companion, Melissa O'Keefe, all of Waymart; two granddaughters, Peyton and Amaris; two sisters, Gertrude Howard and Pearl Blackburn; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a large extended family.

In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her twin sister, Joy Schultz; three sisters, Eldora Burke, Evelyn Miller, and Elizabeth Kenyon; and two brothers, Thomas Eldred and Edward Eldred.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the lives of Joyce and Thomas Fox will be held on Friday, July 24, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 242 Carbondale Road, Waymart, PA.

Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
