JoAnne Hiller

JoAnne Hiller, 80, of Carbondale, died peacefully on Wednesday morning, October 7, 2026 at Oak Ridge Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Taylor, after an extended illness. Her husband, Robert A. Hiller preceded her in death on December 6, 2025.

Born May 1, 1946 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Carbondale, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Tolerico and Anne (Conaboy) Tolerico Edmunds.

JoAnne was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School in the Class of 1964. She was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Parish and attended St. Rose of Lima Church in Carbondale. For most of her life, she worked at Lockheed Martin and retired from there after many years of service. JoAnne was also a former member of the Carbondale Housing Authority Board.

She was well known for her baking abilities; especially her famous Italian wedding cookies. JoAnne enjoyed music, and was especially fond of The Beatles, Bob Segar, and Kris Kristofferson. Her greatest joy in life was her grandchildren whom she loved and adored with all her heart. JoAnne will be remembered as a kind and loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.

JoAnne's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Oak Ridge Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center for the kind and compassionate care they provided JoAnne and her family.

She is survived two children: Frank Nagle and his wife Nancy of Aldenville, and Maureen West of Locust Grove, VA; two sisters: Rose Marion of Scranton, and Nancy Perri of Carbondale; a step-daughter, Jodi Butcher and her husband Kevin of Rivesville, WV; grandchildren: Emily Wertz, Jake Nagle, Molly Nagle, Madison West, Maggie Nagle, Gavin West, Morgan Bryan, Kory Butcher, Trevor Butcher, and Kyle Butcher; several great-grandchildren; and two nieces: Joanne Frable and Melissa Raab; and a nephew, Carm Perri.

JoAnne was also preceded in death by a son, John Nagle; and a sister, Janet Tolerico.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 12, 2026 at 10:00 AM in St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 North Church Street, Carbondale, PA 18407. Friends may visit on Monday from 9-10 AM in the church.

Interment will follow in Indian Orchard Cemetery, Honesdale.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in JoAnne's memory to Women's Resource Center (WRC) PO Box 975, Scranton, PA 18501

Arrangements and cremation are entrusted to Howell Family Funeral Home, Inc., Edward R. Howell, Funeral Director, 269 Belmont Street, Waymart, PA 18472.
