Janet M. Odell

Janet M. Odell, 82, of Prompton, died peacefully on Saturday night, April 25, 2026 at Wayne Memorial Hospital, after an illness. Her husband of 31 years, John C. "Buck" Odell preceded her in death on October 17, 1995. They were married on May 2, 1964 in the Forest City United Methodist Church.

Born March 10, 1944, in Carbondale, she was the daughter of the late Edwin A. Bloxham, Sr. and Dorothea M. (Korb) Bloxham.

Janet was a graduate of Forest City High School. She later attended nursing school before marrying Buck and establishing their home together in Prompton. Janet eagerly met the demands of farm life and joined her husband in operating the family dairy farm without hesitation.

After her husband died unexpectedly, Janet did not give up. She took over the dairy farm and kept it going for many years. Janet had a good life, but it was not an easy life. Her favorite times were spent working in her flower gardens. She loved digging in the soil, planting, and tending her beautiful flowers more than nearly anything else. It wasn't just the flowers and gardens she enjoyed; it was the company and conversation she shared with others who would stop by when they saw her outside.

Janet was a member of the Prompton United Methodist Church. For more than 30 years, she served as the Tax Collector of Prompton Borough. She had integrity, compassion, and empathy; but, most of all, she had grit. Janet was someone who was truly worth knowing. Her life and example will continue to be an inspiration and guide for her family and loved ones for generations to come. She will not be forgotten, but forever remembered with gratitude and love.

She is survived by three sons: Michael J. "Chip" Odell and his wife Cindy of Bethany, Dale J. Odell and his wife Christa of Prompton, and Kip J. Odell and his fiancee Maria of Prompton; a brother, Edwin A. Bloxham, Jr. and his wife Diane of Prompton; grandchildren: Brittany Weist and Tyler, Lauren Odell and Greg, Jacob Odell and Kerri, Hannah Morris and Adam, Eric Odell, Carter Odell, Caroline Linn, and Samantha Linn; great-grandchildren: Levi, Parker, and another great-grandson on the way; nieces; nephews; and friends.

Janet was also preceded in death by a sister, Judith Lawrence.

In accordance with her wishes, there will be no public services.
