Janet K. Houman, 82, of Waymart passed away Wednesday morning, February 16, 2022 at Wayne Woodlands Manor, after an illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Houman in 1994.
Born March 31, 1939 in Waymart, she was the daughter of the late Lyman Delbert Kennedy and Hazel (Robinson) Kennedy.
Janet was a graduate of Waymart High School. Always a hard worker, Janet worked at the former Jerry's Floral Shop in Waymart and was also a seamstress at the DinaAnn and Fun Time Sportswear. She was a waitress at Gibney's Restaurant on Farview Mountain, and Chyle's in Steene. In the most recent years, Janet was a cashier at Ray's where she enjoyed visiting with friends and customers. She enjoyed cooking and baking, gardening and canning; she was also an accomplished knitter and card player. Janet looked forward to attending local sporting events, especially when she could go see her grandchildren play. Among the highlights of her life were the winter trips to Florida that she enjoyed with her friend, Judy Fairchild. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Janet is survived by four children: Gwen Poltanis and her husband Bill of Waymart, Karen Robinson and her husband Bob of Pleasant Mount, Vicki Houman of Carbondale, and Todd Houman and his wife Barbara of Waymart; seven grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her brother, Robert Kennedy.
In accordance with her wishes, there will be no public services.
Interment will be private in The Waymart Cemetery at Canaan Corners, Owego Turnpike.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Janet's memory to a local chapter of the American Diabetes Association or The Open Door Cafe, payable to United Methodist Women, with Open Door Cafe noted with the donation, PO Box J, Waymart, PA 18472
