James W. Bannon

James W. Bannon, 91, of Waymart, died suddenly of natural causes on Sunday morning, July 6, 2025 at home. His wife of nearly 72 years, the former Lorraine Pozza survives him. They were married on October 18, 1952 in St. Mary's Church in Waymart.

Born at home on September 8, 1933 in South Canaan, he was the son of the late James C. and Estelle V. (Borowski) Bannan.

Jimmy was raised on the family farm and lived there until age 19 when he and Lorraine were married. He was a member of St. Mary's Church in Waymart. A skilled craftsman, Jimmy was a home builder and worked in construction most of his life. Years ago, he was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. For many years, Jimmy also worked at Tobyhanna Army Depot.

Jimmy loved his family and enjoyed caring for his home and gardens. He also loved his dogs. Jimmy's last wish was to be able to die at home, in the house he built; and we are thankful that in God's mercy, his wish was granted. Jimmy will be remembered for his generosity, and his easy going and friendly personality. He laughed easily, and was always willing to offer his help to others. He will be dearly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

In addition to his wife, he is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Joyce Bannon; three grandchildren: Renee Chernin and her husband Richard, James Bannon and his wife Kayla, and Gary Barr and his fiance Nicole Kopinski; five great-grandchildren: Tyler, Max, Luke, Hunter, and Paisley; a brother, Thomas Bannan; and sister, Patricia Smith and her husband Ronald; a sister-in-law, Helen Bannan; and several nieces and nephews.

Jimmy was also preceded in death by his son, James A. Bannon in 2011; and a brother, Frank E. Bannan, Sr.

Graveside Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, July 10, 2025 with Deacon Edward Kelly officiating at The Waymart Cemetery at Canaan Corners, Owego Turnpike. Everyone attending is asked to go directly to the cemetery on Thursday morning.

In accordance with Jimmy's wishes, there will be no viewing.
