John J. "Jack" Sporer, 97, of Honesdale died peacefully on Thursday night, September 26, 2024 at Bethany Village with his beloved wife of nearly 66 years at his side, the former Patricia A. Williams. They were married October 25, 1958 in St. Mary Magdalen Church in Honesdale.
Born May 4, 1927 in Honesdale, he was the son of the late Leo and Florentine (Greenfield) Sporer.
Jack was a graduate of Honesdale High School. He enlisted and served in the United States Navy during World War II until his Honorable Discharge in 1946. Jack was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale and attended St. Mary Magdalen Church.
He truly was a "Jack of all trades," and took pleasure in fixing anything that was broken while patiently studying the mechanics of any project. An avid outdoorsman, Jack enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years; he also loved his garden and was especially fond of tending his fruit trees.
Jack worked for many years for the United States Department of Agriculture where he was an Animal and Plant Health Inspector. Jack and Pat enjoyed traveling extensively; they especially loved spending winters in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina where they had many friends from various parts of the country. Above all, Jack was a family man. He loved his wife and children dearly and will be greatly missed.
Jack is also survived by a daughter, Jill Sporer of Louisville, Kentucky; and a son, Jay Sporer and his companion Elaine Lytle of Waymart; a brother, Tom Sporer and his wife Kathy of Honesdale; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by brothers and sisters: Leo Sporer, Elizabeth Polt, Gerald Sporer, and Lois Young.
In accordance with Jack's wishes, following cremation, there will be no public services.
