Jack M. Prausa, 83, of Hawley, died Wednesday, June12, 2024 at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton, after a long illness. His beloved wife, Mary Birmingham survives him. Married on June 11, 2007, Jack passed away just one day after their 17th wedding anniversary.
Born July 2, 1940 in Tacoma, Washington, he was the son of the late Fred Prausa and Margaret (Johnson) Hildebrand.
Jack was a veteran of the US Army and served in Germany. He spent much of his working career in New York City, where he held the positions of Executive Chef at several popular restaurants including Le Perigord Park and Rosa Mexicano. In Hawley, he had owned a popular antiques/gourmet store located within the Hawley Antique Exchange. He was an avid jazz enthusiast and animal adoption supporter.
In addition to his wife and beloved animals, Jack is also survived by his brother, Michael Hildebrand of Bellingham, Washington: two nieces, and a nephew in Columbia, South Carolina.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no services.
