Helen R. Martzen, 95, of Waymart died peacefully on Sunday morning, February 1, 2026 at The Vero at Bethlehem Personal Care Center in Bethlehem, PA. Her husband of 68 years, John J. Martzen, Jr. preceded her in death on November 14, 2025. They were married on July 27, 1957 in St. Thomas More Church in Lake Ariel.
Born April 27, 1930 in Jefferson Township, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Mary (Belckus) Medalis.
Helen was a member of St. Mary's Church in Waymart where she served on the Altar and Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Waymart American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Helen was a talented woman who enjoyed knitting, crocheting, embroidery, needlepoint, tatting, sewing, and quilting. She lovingly shared her beautiful creations with family and friends. Hundreds of Helen's completed projects are in the homes of people who continue to enjoy the beauty she shared with them. Through the years, she made and donated many baby afghans to Project Linus. Helen's memory will live on in the lives of all those who knew and loved her.
Helen is survived by four children: Thomas Martzen of North Carolina, Eileen Joyce of Eynon, Diane Molewski of Bethlehem, and William Martzen of Washington State; several grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her brothers and sisters: William Medalis, Peter Medalis, Susan Berneski, Nellie Palozie, and Anna Porus.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at 12:00 Noon in St. Mary's Church, 242 Carbondale Road, Waymart, with Rev. Joseph Sitko and Deacon Edward Kelly officiating.
There will be a visitation on Wednesday from 11:00 AM until the Noon in the church.
Interment will be in The Waymart Cemetery at Canaan Corners at a later date.
