Floyd E. Bishop

January 1, 1946 — August 28, 2018

Floyd E. Bishop, Sr., 72, of Waymart, passed away Tuesday night, August 28, 2018 at home, after a long illness. His beloved wife of 44 years is Mary Louise Smith Bishop who survives him. 

Born February 6, 1946 in Honesdale, he was the son of the late Virgil Raymond Bishop and Helen Hazen Bishop.

Floyd was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Waymart and was of the Roman Catholic faith.  His first job was in the former Steve’s Diner where Floyd was a dishwasher.  He went on to work at S.J. Bailey & Sons in Honesdale, Fabwell in Simpson, Fleetwood Trailer Sales in Carbondale, Zeisloff Construction in Bloomsburg, B.G. Coon Construction in Luzerne, Neshaminy Construction in Feasterville, Eynon Casket Shells, and Honesdale Woodcraft.  Floyd was also a proud member of several labor unions. Above all, he was a fantastic and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend.  

Floyd is survived by his loving wife, Mary Louise Smith Bishop; their four wonderful children and their families:  Floyd E. Bishop, Jr. and his wife Beth of Bothell, WA, twin daughters Holly Louise Gries and her husband Jeremy, & Rosemary Louise Hedgelon and her husband Jaime, and Amy Louise Gries and her husband Nathan, all of Damascus Township; twelve beautiful grandchildren:  Floyd E. Bishop III, Abigal Bishop, Kyle Bishop, Ryan Bishop, Tyler Gries, Olivia Gries, Chloe Hedgelon, Calvin Hedgelon, Cameron Hedgelon, Carson Hedgelon, Colton Gries, and Reagan Gries; a wonderful aunt, Annie Bishop of New Berlin, NY; his best friend, Richie Miller of Honesdale; two sisters:  Martha Kraft, and Helen Beesmer and her husband Jack; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Bishop; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Wyman J. Smith and his wife Sandy of Honesdale; and several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews, and cousins.

He is also survived by three sons from a previous relationship:  Kevin, Joe, and Mark and their families.

He was also preceded in death by his brother, Virgil Bishop; his sister Joyce Kovaleski and her husband Thomas; a brother-in-law, Bob Kraft; and a niece Christy Beesmer.

Friends may visit on Friday, August 31, from 5-9 PM and on Saturday morning, September 1, from 9-10 AM at the Jenkins-Howell Funeral Home, Inc, Edward Howell Funeral Director, 269 Belmont St. Waymart, PA 18472.

A procession will immediately follow at 10:00 AM on Saturday from the funeral home to Calkins Cemetery, near 527 Calkins Road, Milanville, PA 18443 for Graveside Funeral Services at 11:00 AM with Father William J.P. Langan officiating.
