Elston E. Mannick, 91, of Waymart died Wednesday night, December 28, 2016 at Wayne Woodlands Manor after an illness. He is survived by his beloved wife, Marjorie Pellett Mannick. Married December 31, 1943 in Carbondale, they would have celebrated 73 years of marriage on Saturday.
Born February 1, 1925 at home on the family farm near Waymart, he was the son of the late Earl and Blanche Wagner Mannick.
Elston was a prominent fixture in the Waymart community. He was the President of The Waymart Cemetery Company and served as caretaker of the cemetery for nearly 60 years. In addition to owning and operating a family dairy farm, Elston was the proprietor of a construction business in which he built many barns, silos, and agricultural additions in and around Wayne County. He also sold, installed, and serviced Cornell Co. barn cleaners and was an integral part of many local farms in the community. Elston and Marjorie were members of the Monthly Couples Pinochle Club. He was also a member of the Yearly Deer Hunting Club. Elston enjoyed gardening; especially growing potatoes and tomatoes which he loved to share with friends and neighbors. From Florida to Alaska, Elston was always eager to travel with his beloved Marjorie. More than anything in his amazing life, Elston treasured his family above all else.
He is also survived by two children, Donald E. Mannick and his wife Maryann of Canton, PA, and Carole Olver and her husband Roger of Beech Grove; a daughter-in-law, Gail Mannick of Waymart; eight grandchildren, Errol Mannick and his wife Sara, Aaron Mannick, Aileen Mannick, Lisa Olver, Tim Olver, Jennifer Dougherty and her husband Brian, Rebecca Park and her husband Kevin, and Matthew Mannick and his wife Emily; six great-grandchildren, Adalyn, Noah, Eli, Brody, Brynn, and Hadley.
Elston was also preceded in death by a son, Albert "Dale" Mannick on March 25, 2016; and two sisters, Faye Bateridge and Wilna Tuthill.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, January 2, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. at Calvary United Methodist Church, 151 Belmont Street, Waymart, PA 18472 with Rev. Wendy D'Agostino officiating.
Friends may visit at the church on Monday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Elston's memory to the Calvary United Methodist Church, PO Box J, Waymart, PA 18472.
Private interment will be in Waymart Cemetery at Canaan Corners, Owego Turnpike, Waymart.
