Edward Devrieze

January 1, 1930 — December 19, 2018

Edward H. DeVrieze, 88, of Milanville passed away on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 home.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Bialecki) DeVrieze.

Born October 5, 1930 in Fairlawn, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Harry and Julia (Desbien) DeVrieze.

Ed was a United States Army veteran who was Honorably Discharged in December of 1960 after years of faithful service to his country. He was active in his home community in New Jersey before moving to Milanville in the early 1970’s.  He was an Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge in New Jersey as well as the President of the West Milford Ambulance Squad.  Ed also served as a police officer and Captain of the Dive Team in West Milford, NJ.  He was a member of the Operating Engineers Union Local #825 in New Jersey for 41 years before retirement.

After moving to Wayne County, Ed was a Sheriff’s Deputy for former Wayne County Sheriff Kalinowski.  He owned and operated the family dairy farm in Milanville and ran a Patz farm equipment repair service for more than 25 years.  In addition to these businesses, Ed founded DeVrieze Excavating in West Milford, NJ, and the business is still in operation today in Milanville.

Ed is survived by a son, Michael DeVrieze and his wife Ann of Milanville, a daughter, Denise DeVeau of Cochecton, NY; grandsons, Michael DeVrieze and his wife Valerie of Milanville, Korey Lauersen of Honesdale; granddaughters, Theresa Warnott and her husband Charles of Calkins, Angela Harris of Mount Cobb, and Lauren DeVrieze of Missouri; several great-grandsons; a brother, Harry DeVrieze of Florida.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Edward DeVrieze; an infant daughter, Sharon; a brother, Al DeVrieze; a sister, Dorothy VanBlarcom.

Following cremation, a graveside service will be held in Calkins Cemetery in the spring of 2019.
