Dorothy Lopatofsky, 94, of Waymart passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, July 27, 2025 at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center. Her beloved husband of more than 60 years, Albert T. Lopatofsky, preceded her in death on February 27, 2020.
Born December 16, 1930 at home in Sterling, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Dolly (Stevens) Hinds.
Dorothy was a graduate of the Greene-Dreher Sterling High School and later attended and graduated from Beauty School. She was a member of St. Mary's Church in Waymart. Together, Dorothy and Albert raised their children on the family dairy farm in Clinton Township, north of Waymart. Dorothy was a true farmer's wife and homemaker; her cooking and baking brought her family and loved ones around the table where she loved spending time together. She will especially be remembered as a kind and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Dorothy is survived by four children: Mark Lopatofsky and his wife Elva, Judith Merrigan and her husband Thomas, all of Waymart, Lisa Carter and her husband Mark of Marquette, Mich., and Diane Lopatofsky-Corazza and her husband David of Honesdale; grandchildren: Nicholas Lopatofsky and his wife Leslie, Andrew Lopatofsky and his wife Lisa, Emily Dwyer and her husband Colin, Jason and his wife Kathy Carter, Chad and his wife Kristi Carter, Brian Carter; great-grandchildren: Adalida, Amoreena, Michaela, Alexandra, Aurora, Cassidy, Olivia, Colton, Payton, Mason, Natalie, and Sophia; two sisters, Janet Olsommer and her husband Donald, and Lynn Reese; a brother, John Hinds; and several nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was also preceded in death by a son, Michael Lopatofsky in 1991.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at 10:30 AM in St. Mary's Church, 242 Carbondale Road, Waymart, PA with Rev. Joseph Sitko and Deacon Edward Kelly officiating. Everyone attending is asked to go directly to the church on Wednesday.
Friends and family may visit on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at the Howell Family Funeral Home, Inc. Edward R. Howell, Funeral Director, 269 Belmont St. Waymart, PA.
Interment will be private in The Waymart Cemetery at Canaan Corners at a later time.
