Doris W. Grizzle, 79, of Waymart, Pennsylvania, formerly of Princeton, North Carolina and Gloucester, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at home.

Born on May 11, 1945 in Selma, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Elmond L. and Ruth E. (Brown) Woodard.

Doris was raised among her loving siblings on the family farm in Selma, Johnston County, NC. Following her graduation from high school, Doris married Joseph Manning and settled in Gloucester, VA.

A faithful and supportive mother, Doris was engaged in her sons' lives and activities; she especially enjoyed attending their football games. A sports enthusiast herself, Doris played softball and basketball in women's leagues and was also fond of bowling. She was an avid fan of the UNC Tarheels and the Washington Redskins. For many years while living in Gloucester, Doris worked at Carolyn's Department store.

In 1983, Doris embarked on a new career when she began working as a secretary for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. She worked at both FBI Headquarters and Quantico Training Facility until her retirement in 2006. Following her retirement, Doris moved to Princeton, NC to be closer to many of her family members. She lived there until 2022 when she moved to Waymart, PA.

Doris' greatest joy in life was being a mother and grandmother. She loved spending time with her family, loved ones, and friends. Doris especially cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be lovingly remembered by everyone that was blessed to have her in their life.

She is survived by two sons: Darrell Dwayne Manning and his wife Nancy of Waymart, PA, and Bryan Ken Manning and his wife Suzanne of Gloucester, VA; step-children: Natasha Smihula, Tonja Shafer, and Justin Grizzle; 11 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a sister, Carol Williams; and a sister-in-law, Carolyn Woodard.
