Daniel Decker

Daniel C. Decker, 73, of Honesdale, died unexpectedly on Sunday, January 7, 2024.

Born on July 23, 1950 in Honesdale, he was the son of the late Glen and Lorna (Wood) Decker. He was a graduate of Honesdale High School class of 1968.

During his high school career Dan excelled in basketball and baseball. His passion was baseball where as a hard throwing left handed pitcher he led the circuit in wins and strikeouts. He threw nine one-hitters in three seasons (1966-68) and also held the record for the most strikeouts in a game. As a result of his achievements on the mound he was scouted and invited to tryouts with the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Cincinnati Reds. However, his pitching career was cut short by a serious arm injury.

Dan later attended Mansfield College. After graduating, he taught at Delaware Valley Job Core, Callicoon, NY. He then worked at Gammell and Kimble Ice Cream Co. with his father and later with his brother, Bill, for Decker's Dairy. He was also a substitute teacher in his later years at Honesdale High School.

He was inducted as a member of the Wayne Area Sports Hall of Fame in 2000.

He is survived by his brothers, William Decker, and wife, Kathleen, Honesdale; David Decker, NC, as well as several nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his sister, Glenda Todd.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Danny's memory to Dessin Animal Shelter, 138 Miller Drive, Honesdale, PA 18431.

Arrangements are entrusted to Howell Family Funeral Home, Inc., Edward R. Howell, Funeral Director, 269 Belmont St. Waymart, PA.
